Allison

A native New Yorker, Allison possesses a devotion for math and science matched by her ardor for writing and performing arts. Allision graduated cum laude from the Horace Mann School in the Bronx, where she published a proof in a physics journal and won schoolwide awards for academic and personal essays.

Allison holds an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University. There, she wrote for the Harvard Crimson, led an improv comedy group, and did tech theater for numerous student productions. Her Common Application statement appears in 50 Successful Harvard Application Essays (5th edition).  At Harvard, Allison was a Teaching Assistant for both Calculus and Discrete Mathematics, instructing small groups in section and working one-on-one with students in office hours. After college, Allison worked as an equity derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs and as a financial engineer at a start-up.

Allison’s background in improv comedy has bolstered her adaptability, social awareness, and positive attitude. Her greatest strength as a tutor is her ability to approach concepts from multiple angles, providing additional methods for solving a math problem or alternate explanations for a scientific phenomenon. Allison approaches the challenges of learning with encouragement and empathy. In her spare time, she is a dog mom and Broadway investor.
