Julie Tessler

Julie is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the founder and CEO of Xcel Advisors & Tutors, LLC. To Julie, a key component to the success of her work with students is a unique combination of pattern recognition and her ability to communicate confidence. She feels that it is of paramount importance that her students understand that what may have been difficult to learn in the past will be very different in the present. With the power of confidence in mind, Julie weaves a mix of kindness, honesty, and encouragement into every student meeting.

Julie and the Xcel team have advised students from all over the world in their college process, working to effectively frame their students’ stories into impactful college essays, all while fostering their intellectual curiosities, writing abilities, and confidence. Whether helping high achievers produce their most competitive work or energizing student in need of focus, Julie emphasizes setting goals that engage each student as an individual and at all levels of study.

Julie experiences the process of preparing for tests and application milestones as transformative for her students. Drawing on her deep background in the sciences, environmentalism, humanities, interviewing, resume writing, and tutoring with Advantage Testing, NYC, Julie tailors each student’s program to developing the knowledge, habits, and focus they need to thrive. It is this devotion to her students’ growth that led her to found Xcel—a tutoring firm with a business model that attracts and supports excellence in our tutors and assists in building the kinds of relationships that empower students.
