Sarah

Sarah is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry at Columbia University and grew up in Tucson, Arizona before graduating from the University of Chicago with a B.S. in Chemistry. Her background combines technical expertise in chemistry with an interdisciplinary problem-solving approach developed through her liberal arts education. During her time at Columbia and UChicago, she taught general and organic chemistry with the goal of linking the concepts taught in class to experiences in the real world, allowing her students to gain an understanding of the ways that chemistry impacts their daily lives.

What makes Sarah particularly effective is her individualized approach to each student, which comes from her own experiences in the classroom and in lab. As both a current and former student, she understands that there is no one-size-fits-all method for teaching difficult concepts. In her doctorate, she spends every day tackling problems from multiple angles, and she extends the same strategy to teaching chemistry and physics for the MCAT. Her experience and familiarity with academic literature also enable her to break the passage-based exam into digestible pieces and build her students’ confidence in interpreting typically inaccessible language, helping them understand exactly what the test is looking for.

Beyond her specialization in teaching students how to approach chemistry and physics on the MCAT, Sarah is also experienced with tutoring the quantitative section of the GRE, the SAT, and the ACT. Additionally, she is an experienced tutor in academic general, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry at the college level, and has worked with students on strengthening their mathematics skills in topics ranging from algebra through calculus. When she’s not teaching or in lab, you can find her in Riverside Park, knitting her own clothes, or at the climbing gym.
